Freelance Social Media Community Engagement & Guerrilla Marketing Specialist

Location: Remote but Los Angeles, Nashville or New York preferred
Position: Freelance / Part-Time
Compensation: $40–$50 per hour
Hours: Approximately 10–15 hours per week to start, with potential to expand

About the Role

DOG AND A DUCK is looking for a creative, culturally connected, and highly engaged social media specialist to help build passionate communities around our LGBTQ+ client brands.

This isn't a traditional social media management position. We're looking for someone who knows how to start conversations, build relationships, and turn casual followers into loyal fans.

You'll spend your time actively engaging with people across Instagram, TikTok, Facebook, Reddit, and other social platforms. Working directly from our clients' official accounts, you'll join relevant conversations, leave thoughtful and entertaining comments, connect with creators and community members, and find unexpected ways to introduce our brands to new audiences.

Our clients span LGBTQ+ hospitality, nightlife, travel, entertainment, and sexual health. We're looking for someone who understands these communities, speaks their language, and knows how to engage authentically.

What You'll Do

  • Build community through conversation. Proactively comment, reply, and engage from our clients' official social media accounts to develop genuine relationships with audiences.

  • Find conversations worth joining. Identify relevant creators, influencers, trending posts, cultural moments, and community discussions where our brands can naturally participate.

  • Execute guerrilla marketing strategies. Develop creative, unconventional tactics to introduce our clients to new audiences and generate organic awareness without relying solely on paid advertising.

  • Make our brands part of the conversation. Engage with LGBTQ+ creators, community organizations, nightlife personalities, entertainers, and other culturally relevant accounts.

  • Turn engagement into relationships. Identify potential brand advocates, collaborators, and superfans through thoughtful one-on-one interactions.

  • Spot emerging opportunities. Monitor trends, memes, conversations, and cultural moments that offer opportunities for timely, clever brand engagement.

  • Develop distinctive brand voices. Adapt your tone and personality across different client accounts, from playful and provocative to informative and supportive.

  • Track what works. Share regular updates on meaningful interactions, relationships developed, emerging opportunities, and community growth.

Who We're Looking For

  • Someone who genuinely loves social media and is constantly discovering what's happening across platforms.

  • A strong writer who can be clever, funny, engaging, and authentic in just a few words.

  • Someone with a deep understanding of LGBTQ+ culture, communities, creators, humor, and trends.

  • A natural conversationalist who understands how to build relationships online without sounding like a brand trying to sell something.

  • A creative thinker who can identify unconventional opportunities to generate awareness and engagement.

  • Someone comfortable managing multiple brand personalities and switching between different voices.

  • A self-starter who can identify opportunities and take initiative without waiting for assignments.

  • Someone who understands the difference between meaningful engagement and spam.

  • Experience in social media, community management, influencer marketing, guerrilla marketing, or digital marketing.

  • Strong judgment when representing brands publicly, particularly when engaging with sensitive or potentially controversial topics.

What Makes This Role Different

We're not looking for someone to spend their day scheduling posts, designing graphics, or building content calendars. We have teams for that.

Your job is to make our brands more visible, more relevant, and more connected to the communities they serve.

That might mean leaving a perfectly timed comment on a viral TikTok, starting a conversation with a potential brand advocate, engaging with a local LGBTQ+ organization, or finding a creative way to introduce one of our clients into an existing cultural conversation.

We want someone who sees social media as a place to build relationships, not just publish content.

Position Details

This is an initial freelance engagement of approximately 10–15 hours per week, with flexibility in scheduling and the potential for additional hours as the role develops.

We're looking for someone who can work independently, bring fresh ideas to the table, and demonstrate how proactive community engagement can build brand awareness and meaningful connections.
